In the first week of December, the start-up event Slush took place in Helsinki. The event facilitates interesting conferences and activities, and brings together the world’s leading founders, investors and executives. As part of the Dutch delegation and together with the 4TU-federation we were fortunate to attend Slush 2021! In this article Flawless Workflow co-founder and Chief Operations Officer (COO) Alexander Henok Habtezghi talks about his event experience.
The program at Slush is about connecting relevant people and providing concrete advice for founders and operators. The first day in Helsinki was filled with pitching activities. Start-ups got the chance to get in contact with investors and the possibility to have interesting discussions about their company and ideas. Alex mentions a specific event in a tram: “At the first day, during a speed-date-like activity, we got the opportunity to pitch the idea of Flawless Workflow to different investors and other founders, while we were driving through the city in a tram. It was a great experience: getting to see a bit of the city, whilst explaining our business to investors.”
During the same day, the companies were able to pitch in front of a bigger audience. Prince Constantijn, who has been one of the strongest advocates for the Dutch start-up community, was also present during this event. For the Flawless Workflow founders it was really motivating that he was willing to take the time to encourage the businesses and to hear about his interest in entrepreneurship.
The subsequent days were dominated by several conferences. We got the opportunity to hear the key players of the start-up world talk about everything related to doing business: the challenges encountered and ways to overcome them, the possibilities to grow and scale a business, as well as different insights in niches and technologies that are interesting for the future. “The stories from the speakers showed me that a lot of people are really chasing their goals. That gives you a lot of energy and the feeling that what you are doing is possible and that you are on the right track.”
Alex mentions one insightful story in particular: “During one of the talks, a speaker explained about the importance of focusing on value and the customer problem instead of concentrating only on growth and investments. A company should focus on adding value and how to make customer life better. This was particularly inspiring as we are trying to put much focus on the customer perspective with Flawless Workflow, and hence it is useful to get the confirmation that this perspective is indeed important.”
For Flawless Workflow, the event was extremely insightful. We are currently in the phase of growing and recruiting more amazing people to our team. Coming back from this fascinating week, we are full of energy and ready to apply the valuable knowledge and advice that we received at Slush. Besides, it is extremely motiving to see that there is a high interest for the standardized solutions we offer. In the coming periods we will focus on these opportunities, recruiting the right people, and bringing Flawless Workflow to an international business. The insights and ideas gained at Slush, will definitely play a big role for us in the coming years to make Flawless Workflow grow sustainably and effectively.
